Maya Edwards

Board Member Since 2018

Maya Edwards is currently attending Southern University at New Orleans for Social Work. Before returning to school, she was a teacher for two years.  She credits her experiences teaching 2 and 3 year olds as the encouragement she needed to return to school for a degree in Social Work.  Her experience also showed her the need for adults to advocate for children’s needs. Ms. Edwards has two sons who both attend Einstein schools and therefore serves as our parent board member.  “Education has always been at the forefront for my kids and I am so grateful for a school that shares the same vision I have for all kids.”

Sarah Dawkins

Board Member since 2017

Sarah Dawkins moved to New Orleans in 2002 to attend Tulane University.  After graduation, she moved to New York City for three years before returning to New Orleans and Tulane for law school.  Since graduating from law school in 2012 she has served as an attorney in Orleans Parish.  On her time away from the office she enjoys going to concerts and plays.  Sarah is also an avid traveler.

Clarice T. Kirkland

Board Member Since 2016

Clarice T. Kirkland is a professional Social Worker making a positive impact on the City of New Orleans.  She presently serves as a Family Connections Representative/School Social Worker for Catapult Learning, Inc.  Ms. Kirkland previously served as a Mental Health Professional with DuraCARE Counseling & Consulting Services, Adjunct Professor/Field Instructor for Dillard, SUNO, Loyola, Xavier and Tulane universities and the city of New Orleans as Director of the Mayor’s office of Public Advocacy/VIGOR/311 Call Center under three administrations.  Clarice is married, has one daughter, son-in-law and two beautiful grandchildren.

Angela Vance

Board Member since 2016

Angela Vance is a News Producer at WWL-TV. A resident of New Orleans East for more than 30 years, Ms. Vance is dedicated to ensuring that the children of New Orleans East are given the very best educational opportunities. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, watching movies and rooting on the New Orleans Saints and the Tulane University Green Wave Football team.

Durrell Laurent, Board President

Board Member since 2014

Durrell Laurent draws on his deep business and entrepreneurial experiences to assist the Einstein Board. Mr. Laurent works at Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. and Geaux Group LLC, a leading financial management and risk consulting firm. He serves an an invaluable member of our finance committee and offers industry-vetted advice in financial compliance, budgeting, strategic planning, and risk management.

Lauren Narcisse

Board Member since 2012

Lauren Narcisse is an experienced educator, serving on the Einstein Board of Directors, and works at the Urban League College Track. Overseeing Einstein’s academic committee, Ms. Narcisse provides instrumental support in achieving our mission of producing lifelong learners. Additionally, she draws on her background in community outreach to offer suggestions in family engagement and outreach matters.

John Chris Bowman III

Board Member since 2014

Mr. Bowman is currently serving as one of the high school teachers of all subjects at the Virtual Academy of Louisiana. Mr. Bowman serves on the board’s Academic Excellence and Outreach Committees. His career in education began as an Americorps volunteer in rural Arkansas in 1968 and ranges from classroom instructor, to administrator, all the way to Superintendent of the City of Baker School System. His depth of knowledge of public education is unusual and expansive. His passion for the profession is shown in his return to the classroom albeit virtual after his superintendency. When not teaching or pro-bono consulting at Einstein, Mr. Bowman enjoys exploring Louisiana’s many nature activities.  He is also not afraid to admit that he loves math, statistics, and data analysis, particularly data mining and text analytics.

Process for Selection of Parent Board Member

The Board of Einstein Group, Inc., follows the same process for the selection of the parent board member as any other member. The prospective parent board member must fulfill the criteria flowing from OPSB policy for boardmembership. In addition, the prospective parent board member must be nominated for board membership and be elected by a majority of currently serving members, provided the board as a whole consists of seven (7) or more total members. If board members falls below seven (7) total members, the prospective parent member may be appointed by the Board‘s President.
